Responsible Travel Tours

Jetaway Travel is proud to announce a Responsible Travel Tour product that has been developed in line with our new and exciting partnership with the Uniting Church.

Jetaway Travel will be developing a range of responsible travel options initially through Asia where the operators, hotels and other local parties involved all give to the local communities in some way.

The responsible travel options are something that will be offered externally from the Uniting Church as we believe it is a meaningful , exciting (and of course fun,) way to see some of the most beautiful and interesting places in Asia.

The first tour to be going ahead is to Cambodia!  This trip is scheduled to depart on the 25^th May and goes for 8 days and 7 nights.  The tour is to be hosted by Sally from Jetaway, who has been working hard on putting this together behind the scenes.  The group will consist of some Uniting Church representatives , Jetaway staff and likely to be Jetpets staff, plus members of the public.

We are looking for expressions of interest as to who may be  interested in joining our tour. Price is yet to be determined however it will be known soon once we have ascertained numbers. We will be visiting places such as Angkor Wat by local tuk tuk, scenic cycling tour around the temple of Banteay Srei, eating deep-fried tarantulas, visiting life on the lake, helping out at  Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre where they “Save the Bears”,  eat at restaurants that re-educates street kids, stay at hotels that give back to the community and have some free time as well!

The main aim of the trip is to promote Responsible Travel. We will be flying out on the 25^th  May and arrive back in Melbourne on 2 June.

Ascend to the realm of the gods, Angkor Wat. Descend into the hell of the Khmer Rouge at Tuol Sleng. Thanks to a history both inspiring and depressing, Cambodia delivers an intoxicating present for adventurous visitors.

An Empire of Temples
Contemporary Cambodia is the successor state to the mighty Khmer empire, which, during the Angkorian period, ruled much of what is now Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The remains of this empire can be seen at the fabled temples of Angkor, monuments unrivalled in scale and grandeur in southeast Asia. The traveller’s first glimpse of Angkor Wat, the ultimate expression of Khmer genius, is sublime and is matched by only a few select spots on earth, such as Machu Picchu or Petra.

The Comeback Capital
Just as Angkor is more than its wat, so too is Cambodia more than its temples. The chaotic yet charismatic capital of Phnom Penh is a hub of political intrigue, economic vitality and intellectual debate. All too often overlooked by hit-and-run tourists ticking off Angkor on a regional tour, the revitalised city is finally earning plaudits in its own right thanks to a gorgeous river-side location, a cultural renaissance, and a wining and dining scene to rival anywhere in the region.

The Cambodian Spirit
Despite having the eighth wonder of the world in its backyard, Cambodia’s real treasure is its people. The Khmers have been to hell and back, struggling through years of bloodshed, poverty and political instability. Thanks to an unbreakable spirit and infectious optimism, they have prevailed with their smiles intact. No visitor comes away without a measure of admiration and affection for the inhabitants of this enigmatic kingdom.
